History

The world of wine is so fascinating and involving that it has the power to induce people from other worlds and other experiences to embrace it: this is what happened to Amabile Drocco at the end of the 1990s. After setting up San Cassiano in Alba in 1962, a world-leading food processing machinery company, he felt the call of his father's farming roots and decided to reinvent himself as a winegrower and wine producer. The opportunity came in 1999 with the purchase of the Adelaide estate in Barolo, the oldest part of which dates back to the 18th century (Adelaide was the name of its owner, who was of Prussian origin). The farmhouse was situated around the Preda vineyard which, with its 3.64 hectares, constitutes the most important nucleus of the total seven hectares owned by the family. Initially, the winery was located in the oldest part of the estate, but since 2004 it has moved to a new cellar designed by the architect Dellapiana, which, seen from above, simulates the undulating course of the vineyards, while the interior is dominated by steel, crystal and porphyry.
